On 10 May 2026, astronomers in Arizona discovered a new asteroid: 2026 JH2 . The celestial body is approximately 16 to 35 meters in size and belongs to the Apollo class . This group includes asteroids whose orbits cross Earth’s orbit. On 18 May 2026, the asteroid passed Earth at a distance of only 90,000 kilometers . For comparison, the Moon is on average about 384,000 kilometers away. So we can say that the asteroid came more than four times closer to our planet than the Moon. Despite this close approach, there was no risk of impact . Scientists observed the trajectory very closely and confirmed that the asteroid would pass Earth safely.
