IFA 2026: AI, Humanoid Robots and the Future of Consumer Technology Come to Berlin
Berlin is about to become the centre of the technology world once again.
From 4–8 September 2026, IFA returns to Messe Berlin, bringing together more than 1,900 brands from around the world. From artificial intelligence and humanoid robots to next-generation TVs, smart homes, gaming, mobility and creator technology, IFA 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most interesting editions of the show in years.
And unlike many technology conferences that focus heavily on distant concepts, IFA has traditionally been about technology people can actually experience — and often buy soon afterwards.
🤖 Humanoid Robots Take Over IFA Next
One of the biggest stories at IFA 2026 will be robotics.
IFA says its innovation area, IFA Next, will feature more humanoid robots than ever before. Around 300 exhibitors are expected in this area alone, including startups, research organisations and technology companies from around the world.
Visitors will be able to see how robots are moving beyond laboratories and into real-world applications in homes, workplaces and industry.
There will even be robot football.
Berlin United from Humboldt University will demonstrate RoboCup technology throughout the exhibition, showing how robots can perceive their environment, make decisions and cooperate autonomously.
But robotics isn't the only focus of IFA Next. Expect smart glasses, AI wearables, PetTech and new smart-living technologies as well.
🧠 AI Is Becoming Part of Everything
If there is one technology connecting almost every part of IFA 2026, it is artificial intelligence.
But the conversation is changing.
Instead of simply putting an "AI" label on every device, manufacturers are increasingly looking at how AI can actually make products more useful.
That means smarter appliances, computers capable of processing AI locally, intelligent home automation, AI-powered creative tools and devices that can understand their users better.
One particularly interesting trend will be on-device AI.
Processing AI directly on laptops, phones and other devices can reduce dependence on cloud servers while improving speed and potentially giving users more control over their data.
IFA has even created a dedicated content track called World of AI & Future of Tech.
🏠 The Smart Home Is Getting Much Smarter
IFA has always been a major event for home appliances, and 2026 will be no exception.
The difference is that appliances are increasingly becoming connected, automated and intelligent.
Robot vacuum cleaners are becoming more autonomous. Washing machines can optimise programs automatically. Cameras can recognise events around the home. Coffee machines continue to become more sophisticated.
Among the products already listed by IFA are new appliances from brands including Kärcher, Nivona and Severin, alongside numerous connected-home products.
The goal of the next generation of smart-home technology is increasingly simple:
less time controlling technology and more technology working automatically for you.
📺 The Battle for the Best TV Continues
IFA remains one of Europe's most important showcases for television technology.
This year, expect enormous displays and continued competition between OLED, Mini-LED and Micro RGB technologies.
LG, for example, is exhibiting its Micro RGB evo AI TV MRGB96B, while several of the world's biggest display manufacturers are expected to demonstrate their latest premium televisions.
The interesting question is no longer simply how large a television can become.
Manufacturers are competing over brightness, colour accuracy, energy consumption, AI image processing and increasingly sophisticated display technologies.
For visitors, however, there is a much simpler advantage:
IFA is one of the rare opportunities where you can stand in front of many of these flagship displays and compare them with your own eyes.
🎮 Computers, Gaming and AI PCs
Computing and gaming have their own major presence at IFA 2026.
Companies including Acer are among the confirmed exhibitors, while AI-enabled computers are expected to be an important theme throughout the show.
The laptop is gradually transforming from a device that simply connects to cloud AI into a machine capable of running increasingly powerful AI models itself.
That could affect everything from video editing and translation to gaming, productivity and content creation.
For creators in particular, the combination of powerful GPUs and local AI processing could become one of the most important computing trends of the next few years.
🚗 Cars, E-Bikes and Future Mobility
IFA isn't just about televisions and refrigerators anymore.
The IFA Mobility area is moving to the CityCube Berlin in 2026.
Brands including Volkswagen, Xiaomi, XPENG, NAVEE and Soflow are expected to showcase technologies ranging from electric cars to e-bikes, e-scooters and cargo bikes.
IFA even promotes the show with a reference to flying cars, demonstrating just how far the definition of "consumer electronics" has expanded.
The boundaries between technology companies, appliance manufacturers and mobility companies are disappearing surprisingly quickly.
💄 Yes, There Is Even Beauty Tech
One of the more unusual areas this year is the IFA Beauty Hub.
Located in Hall 13, it will function as a technology-focused beauty lab where visitors can experience new products, treatments and live demonstrations.
It's another example of how technology is expanding into areas that previously had little connection with traditional electronics exhibitions.
Health, beauty, wearables and personal technology are increasingly becoming one industry.
🎥 IFA Is Becoming a Creator Event Too
IFA 2026 isn't designed only for technology journalists and retailers.
The IFA Creator Hub at Palais am Funkturm will include streaming studios, product testing, masterclasses, networking and creator-focused events.
On 6 September, IFA will hold Creator Connect, a dedicated programme covering the creator economy, AI-powered creativity and new approaches to digital content.
There will also be a Creator Stage and live podcast events.
For YouTubers, photographers, filmmakers and social-media creators, this could make IFA considerably more interesting than the traditional exhibition format of simply walking from booth to booth.
🏆 The IFA Innovation Awards
IFA is also expanding its own technology awards.
The IFA Innovation Awards will recognise products across several categories, alongside three headline prizes:
Best of IFA
Best Tech Innovation
Best Brand
The winners will subsequently appear in a dedicated Innovation Awards Zone, allowing visitors and journalists to experience the winning technology themselves.
That could make the awards one of the easiest ways to discover products worth paying attention to among thousands of exhibits.
🌍 More Than Just a Technology Exhibition
IFA 2026 will contain five major content tracks:
World of AI & Future of Tech
Retail & Future of Commerce
Marketing & Creativity
Culture & Lifestyle
Smart & Sustainable Living
Meanwhile, IFA Global Markets, running from 5–7 September, is expected to bring together more than 450 manufacturers, OEMs, ODMs and suppliers.
This business side of IFA is less visible to normal visitors, but it is extremely important.
Some of the products that appear under European consumer brands in the future may begin their journey through meetings between manufacturers and companies taking place here.
📍 IFA 2026: What You Need to Know
IFA 2026 takes place at Messe Berlin from 4–8 September 2026.
The show brings together more than 1,900 brands, covering consumer electronics, AI, robotics, computing, gaming, smart homes, appliances, audio, mobility and emerging technologies.
Before the public exhibition begins, IFA Media Days take place on 2–3 September, when companies will hold press conferences and unveil some of their biggest announcements.
That means some of the most interesting IFA 2026 news may actually arrive before the doors officially open on 4 September.
🚀 Why IFA 2026 Is Worth Watching
The most interesting thing about IFA 2026 may not be one particular television, robot or laptop.
It's how all these technologies are beginning to converge.
AI is entering appliances.
Cars are becoming computers.
Computers are becoming AI machines.
Robots are leaving research laboratories.
Homes are becoming increasingly autonomous.
And creators are becoming an important audience for technology companies themselves.
IFA started as a radio exhibition in Berlin more than a century ago.
In 2026, the same event is showing humanoid robots, AI computers, electric vehicles, smart glasses and technologies that would have sounded like science fiction for most of its history.
And for five days in September, you can see that future in Berlin.
