⛓️ Does Blockchain Actually Belong in Education?
Let’s remove crypto from the conversation for a moment.
No Bitcoin.
No trading.
No tokens going to the moon. 🚀
Does blockchain itself actually solve anything in education?
Potentially, yes.
And one of the most interesting use cases has nothing to do with cryptocurrency.
🎓 Credentials.
Today, your educational achievements are scattered everywhere.
A university has your degree.
A language school has your certificate.
Another platform has your course history.
An employer has records of your training.
And very often, your “digital credential” is still…
a PDF.
Now imagine something different.
You complete a German B2 course.
Your learning provider issues a verifiable digital credential.
It belongs to you.
You keep it in a digital wallet.
When applying for a university or job, you can prove:
✓ who issued it
✓ what you completed
✓ when you completed it
✓ whether the credential is authentic
✓ whether it has been changed or revoked
The employer doesn't necessarily need to email the institution.
The university doesn't need another scanned PDF.
The learner doesn't depend entirely on one platform continuing to exist.
And credentials from different institutions could potentially become part of the same portable learning identity.
This is where blockchain becomes interesting.
Not because education needs a cryptocurrency.
It doesn't.
But because education has a trust problem between organizations that don't necessarily share the same database.
Universities.
Schools.
Training providers.
Employers.
Governments.
Learning platforms.
And learners.
Blockchain can potentially provide one infrastructure layer for verifying records between them.
But there's an important caveat:
Not everything needs a blockchain.
If one university simply needs to store its students' grades, a normal database is probably much simpler.
The interesting use case appears when a credential needs to move between organizations while remaining independently verifiable.
At Konnektoren, this is something we're particularly interested in.
What if your learning achievements weren't trapped inside the platform where you earned them?
What if you could actually own and carry proof of what you've learned?
AI could help us understand what you can do.
Digital credentials could help us prove what you've achieved.
And blockchain might become part of the infrastructure connecting those two worlds.
Maybe blockchain doesn't belong everywhere in education.
But credentials?
That's where the conversation gets interesting.
